ABSTRACT

Near Field Communication (NFC) is a relatively new technology that evolved from RFID and proximity smart cards. So far, companies have focused on three di¬erent types of applications: Transit and ticketing, payment, and advertising. Transit and ticketing applications let users buy tickets, store them electronically, and use them later to access di¬erent premises and means of public transport. Payment applications, in turn, transform a mobile phone into a virtual wallet. Finally, advertising applications bring announcements and other promotional materials to mobile devices. All these application areas are interesting from the business point of view but cover only a small subset of the potential applications.
