Stress Echocardiography
Pages 7

Stress echocardiography, introduced in 1979, is used for detection of coronary artery disease. Subsequently, the technique has evolved into a widely used, versatile technique not only for diagnosis of ischemic heart disease but also for determination of prognosis. The rationale for stress echocardiography is that stress results in wall motion abnormalities in regions subtended by a stenosed coronary artery; these wall motion abnormalities can be detected with echocardiography.
