Vasculitis
Pages 10

In general, a humoral and or cell-mediated immune-mediated response to a noxious stimulus occurs. The inflammatory response is inappropriately sustained and inflammatory response to the vessel continues. The inflammation may be contained within the vessel wall or through the vessel wall. In either case, what sustains the process is often not known.Often the injury is nonspecific, due to immune-complex deposition. At times there is direct immune response to the vessel-such as the basement membrane in HenochSchönlein purpura.
