ABSTRACT

Reviewing the business rules and processes for the maintenance function of any organization can easily be a very major task in which the level of complexity can become very confusing, very quickly. It is essential to realize at this point that in addition to the hidden element of human resources planning and management, the operations of any maintenance department basically fall into the following main areas:

• Operational maintenance • Technical change management • Shutdown or maintenance outage planning

Within these areas are all of the processes that can possibly fall under the heading of maintenance management. This can include apparently disparate processes such as capital acquisitions, cost controls, and equipment strategy reviews and updates.
