ABSTRACT
Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is a significant health problem in the United States, killing an estimated 3700 people annually.
It is the single most common cause of poisoning death in the country. During the decade of the 1980s, there were approximately 1100 deaths each year due to accidental CO exposure and an additional 2600 suicidal deaths.
