ABSTRACT

Carbon monoxide (CO) is generated as a result of incomplete combustion of carbonbased fuel. It is formed in houses or buildings when the heating appliances are not working properly. Automobiles can also generate significant amounts of CO. Industrial types of CO detectors for warning and personal monitoring have been manufactured for many years. They are used in mines, garages, factories, and laboratories. First responders from the utility companies and fire departments use them to check houses and buildings for the presence of CO. However, residential CO detectors are a relatively new entry. They became more common only in the last 10 or so years.
