Angiogenesis is the process by which new blood vessels form from preexisting vessels.

Vasculogenesis is the de novo formation of blood vessels from endothelial precursor cells.

Under physiological conditions, the formation of new blood vessels during embryogenesis

occurs predominantly by vasculogenesis, whereas in adults, angiogenesis is predominant and

critical to wound healing, the menstrual cycle, and pregnancy [1].
