ABSTRACT

Painters are a high-risk group for health problems. According to European and Dutch data of the building industry, painters suffer from more complaints of the upper extremities than the control group in the construction industry (Arbouw 1997). Construction workers already show more health impairment than the general working population (Blatter and Bongers 1999). A study at the University of Iowa (Cook et al. 1996) also found a greater incidence of health complaints involving the upper limbs of painters, compared to construction workers.
