ABSTRACT

To obtain a random, representative sample, each individual (or item) in a population must have an equal probability of being selected. No individual (or item) or class of individuals may be discriminated against. As almost all our readers will have had some experience with the jury system,

we illustrate the drawing of a random, representative sample through a study of the process of jury selection. For completeness, the fundamental issues in jury selection including the right to serve, the basis on which jury selection may be challenged, and the right to challenge are also presented.
