ABSTRACT

In the Handbook of OSHA Construction Safety and Health, a foundation has been set forth for a comprehensive approach to construction safety and health. As was said earlier, construction is a unique industry, but it goes without saying that the universal principles of occupational safety and health apply to construction, as well as to all other industries. These five principles of occupational safety and health are as follows:

1. All accidents are preventable. 2. All levels of management are responsible for safety. 3. Every employee has the responsibility to himself or herself, their coworkers, and their

families to work safely. 4. In order to eliminate accidents, management must insure that all employees are properly

trained on how to safely and efficiently perform every job task. 5. Every employee must be involved in every area of the safety and production process.
