ABSTRACT
Traditional methods for delivering drugs to the brain are inadequate. Many drugs, particularly watersoluble or high molecular weight compounds, do not enter the brain following systemic administration because they permeate through blood capillaries very slowly. This blood-brain barrier (BBB) severely limits the number of drugs that are candidates for treating brain disease.
