ABSTRACT
This introductory chapter is more like a preface, only longer. We address a key rhetorical question: Why have we embarked upon writing this book? Unfortunately, we have no one-line answer. In this chapter, we raise a number of important issues, explain some
crucial points, and give justifications for writing this book. We hope that teachers, students, practitioners, researchers and others who are generally interested in statistical science will find our rationale convincing and regard this book useful.
