ABSTRACT

There is a wide variety of so-called “ergonomic lift assist” equipment available for industrial and com-

mercial use. In the context of this chapter, we will address only those products that provide the worker a

reduced risk of injury or CTDs in what is, or has been a totally manual task. This will eliminate any

discussion of traditional lift trucks, high-speed conveyors, heavy-duty hoists, and other machinery

that is employed due to speed, weight, or bulk volume considerations. We are also not addressing

some of the other products that are marketed as ergonomic enhancements such as floor mats and

wrist supports, among others. We will address the most commonly applied industrial ergonomic

assist equipment in a very basic and practical way.
