ABSTRACT

A control chart is a run chart on which the borders and centre line of the common cause highway have been drawn. In this chapter we consider how to construct control charts for different situations and types of data. We also discuss how to interpret the charts and how to use them to monitor a process. There are two main types of control charts:

chart: A chart used for interval data, when it is feasible to get only one measurement in any time period. For example, in the debt recovery example in Section 1.3, data on the percentage of unrecovered debt was available only once a month.
