ABSTRACT
The quote above describes how remarkable the phenomenon of information passing through the air has become. Some suggest that if were a previous generation, many people would consider RFID technologies “black magic.” Currently, some opponents to RFID technologies have demonized the technology in such a way that others have described the technologies as “Big Brother,” the realization of the 1997 movie Gattaca, in which people are stamped at birth, or, in the extreme, the end of the world as we know it. This chapter describes some of the physics of RFID technologies and hopefully will distinguish it from magic.
