Many fungi exhibit persistent infection with double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) viruses. Among these are the Totiviridae, dsRNA viruses in which a single segment of dsRNA encodes all necessary viral functions. There are also representatives of this family among the protozoans, and all are evolutionarily related.
