ABSTRACT
Mitochondria play an essential role in harnessing chemical energy in addition to carrying out key reaction steps for a number of metabolic pathways. These organelles not only help maintain the cellular metabolic homeostasis but also play an important role in the regulation of pathways leading to cell death.
