ABSTRACT
A solute is any substance dissolved in solution. Solutes in groundwater can occur naturally, or they can be introduced by various sources of pollution. The natural composition of groundwater is derived from many different sources, including gases from the atmosphere, weathering and erosion of rocks and soil, and chemical reactions beneath the land surface (Heath, 1983; Hem, 1992).
