ABSTRACT

It is not exaggerating to say that since about 300 years ago when modern science was established, any problem that cannot be dealt with by using science has been classified as indeterministic or stochastic. However, since the concept of indeterministicity was first introduced, nobody seems to have addressed directly the cause of such indeterministicity and studied the meaning and significance of indeterministicity. As a matter of fact, indeterministicity is a philosophicalized concept corresponding to the mathematical concept of stochasticity, which was introduced in relevance to determinacy. Stochasticity and determinacy come individually from the two main methodological systems of modern science — the deterministic logical calculations of the Newtonian dynamic equations and the logical reasoning of the stochastic, statistical mathematics. eir essence still belongs to the mathematical computation of quantitative formal logic, with the former known as determinacy and the later indeterminacy. So, determinant or not is not originated from the underlying materials or events. Instead, it is determined by the mathematical rules of computation employed.
