ABSTRACT
As has been pointed out in Chapter 1, workforce multifunctionality is a very important factor for enterprises that wish to be efficient (some discussions of the benefits of a cross-trained workforce can be found, for example, in McCune, (1994). One important step in workforce management consists of assigning a task to each worker, i.e., resolving the job assignment problem.
