ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses geodemographic and lifestyle data and how these systems are built and integrated into GIS and spatial decision-support systems. Most of the applications of geodemographics are commercial, yet there are also many public sector and research examples. For sustainable development, geodemographics and lifestyle data have barely been utilized, yet they represent a valuable source of input that could be used in a range of different planning and resource management applications, particularly in support of Local Agenda 21 initiatives.
