ABSTRACT
This chapter describes a year-long collaboration between the Village of Oak Park, IL and the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in which faculty, graduate students, village staff, citizen activists, and volunteers came together to develop neighborhood character plans for two commercial business districts in Oak Park. The unique contribution of this project is the integration of computer-mediated visualization and communication tools within traditional community organizing, planning, and decision-making processes.
