ABSTRACT
Introduction A site and area reconnaissance is performed to observe existing conditions and activities. These conditions and activities may or may not have been previously identified through other means. If they are not previously identified, the investigator attempts to find potential sources of environmental contamination not previously encountered and evaluate possible means by which the soil and water may become contaminated. Sometimes a site visit will confirm suspicions. At other times, it will open new avenues for further investigation.
