ABSTRACT
Introduction Many buildings contain hazardous materials that are part of the structure or are typically associated with buildings. Construction materials contain substances that pose a potential health hazard to the building occupants if mismanaged, and hazardous substances may be released from associated structures or functional enclosures. Although their presence devalues a building, a building materials assessment is not mandated by the All Appropriate Inquiries Rule nor required by the ASTM Standard.
