ABSTRACT
About 23 million tons of hazardous wastes are land disposed each year (U.S. EPA, 1999). Land disposal can take place on or slightly below the ground surface, i.e., in a landfill or other land-based unit, or can occur under the Earth’s surface, for example, by deep-well injection.
