ABSTRACT
The hodograph transformation was first investigated by Molenbroek in 1890. Most simply, the transformation interchanges the dependent and independent variables; the result is called the hodograph equation or equations. The name specifically refers to an interchange for a partial differential equation or system of equations; its use for solving ODEs long predates 1890.
