Introduction

Summary of the conceptual basis of this book, providing an outline of the postulate that forms the core of this work: calcium binding proteins (CBPs) are second messengers participating in the calcium signalling cascade. CBPs not only regulate intracellular calcium levels, but they also are involved in the regulation of normal cell physiology, as well as cell behaviour, proliferation, apoptosis, tumorigenesis, and the secondary spread of cancer.
