ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the process of building data warehouses in more detail. As noted by Moody and Kortink (2000), data warehousing is based on a supply chain metaphor. The data product is obtained from data suppliers (operational systems or external sources) and is temporarily stored in a central data warehouse. The data are then delivered via data marts to data consumers (end users). Data warehousing consists of various processes to be executed at design time, build time, and run time (Gatziu et al., 2000).
