ABSTRACT
Continuing the discussion begun in Chapter 6, this chapter addresses various aspects of and summarizes advanced work related to materialized views, including various algorithms related to view selection and maintenance. The main purpose is to illustrate which issues need to be considered and the basic ideas of how to deal with these problems. Therefore, the survey does not intend to provide complete solutions. In addition, focus will be on the ideas of problem solving instead of technical details. Whenever possible, research problems will be identified. Sample issues that need to be addressed and the basic ideas of dealing with these issues will also be provided.
