Summary

This chapter presents a new concept on mechatronic design called mechatronic design quotient (MDQ) [6,8]. MDQ is an evaluation index for multicriteria design, reflecting the degree of overall satisfaction of the design criteria for a mechatronic system. It is computed by the aggregation of different criteria using Choquet fuzzy integral. The application of this mechatronic design methodology is illustrated using examples. The MDQ-based design methodology is concurrent, integrated, and system-oriented, resulting in improved design performance [1-3,6,8].
