For an essential oil to be genuine it must be isolated from a whole plant (fresh or dry), or a
plant part of known taxonomic origin by physical means only. Although the physical
methods used to isolate oils are distillation (steam, steam and water, and water) or expression,
the almost exclusive method for mint oil isolation is steam distillation.
