ABSTRACT
It may happen that we cannot attain the desired point availability or intervalavailability with a system composed of a single repairable unit. It then becomes necessary to improve system performance. This can be done, for example:
(1) By increasing the MTF, decreasing the MTR, or both. (2) By using additional units as either active or inactive spares.
