Statistical life length distributions

In this chapter we present some stochastic models for length of life. In particular, we wish to consider in some detail why one may expect the exponential, gamma, Weibull, and certain other distributions to occur. We shall see that the considerations in the first chapter concerning the Poisson process play a fundamental role. In large part, this chapter is based on Epstein [20].
