Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has gained widespread acceptance for the

assessment of patients with a wide variety of diseases. This chapter cannot describe all these

indications in detail, which has been done elsewhere [1,2]. In addition, it cannot replace

extensive books on cardiac diseases; however, some basic principles of cardiac disease can be

given here to facilitate the understanding of which parameters we measure and why we do this in

cardiac patients.
