Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has gained widespread acceptance for the
assessment of patients with a wide variety of diseases. This chapter cannot describe all these
indications in detail, which has been done elsewhere [1,2]. In addition, it cannot replace
extensive books on cardiac diseases; however, some basic principles of cardiac disease can be
given here to facilitate the understanding of which parameters we measure and why we do this in
cardiac patients.
