ABSTRACT

The role of the laboratory animal resource manager is constantly changing to keep pace with developments in biomedical technology. Depending upon the hat worn and the day of the week, the manager may discuss science with a principal investigator, explore repair options to a piece of equipment with a member of the physical plant, enter financial data into a new software package with an administrative assistant, lead technicians in a session on the proper restraint of a guinea pig, contribute to the design of a new facility, orient a new staff member, or address any of a multitude of facility-related issues. Being involved in each of the activities helps minimize errors, reduce accidents, and facilitate productivity in the vivarium.
