Slides can take place either in a natural formation or in a man-made mass. Theoretically, sliding can occur if the shear stresses developed in the soil exceed the corresponding shear strength of the soil. Stability analysis is important in many kinds of projects, such as highway cuts and fill, earth dams, canals, basements, etc.
