Methods such as TGA, FTIR, pyrolysis FTIR, GC-MS, sulfur and ash analysis, discussed in earlier chapters, have been used in analyzing the materials present in the tread rubber sample.
5.1.2.1 Sample Preparation
The tire tread sample with unknown composition was collected from the tire. The tread cap was separated from the tread base using the splitting machine. The tread cap sample was passed through the closed-nip two-roll mill to reduce the sample size. Mechanical sample crushing was important to prepare the homogenized sample.
