ABSTRACT

Revolutionary tire designs for high-tech passenger car radial tires drives the developmental pace of the tire equipment manufactures. Triple-tread, asymmetrical tread, or highly loaded silica compounds have a consequential impact on the extrusion machinery. In this context the design of the extrusion head and the extruders itself requires adaption to the new, challenging tire technology of today. The multiple tire designs require the extrusion systems to be easily adaptable in terms of extruder configuration and extrusion head design. The presentation demonstrates various examples and possible solutions. The rolling resistance can be decisively influenced by the rubber compound the treads are made from. The ever-increasing pressure on the tire manufacturers to compete in an environment of increased cost for raw materials and energy is demanding highly efficient tire production machinery. Optimization of the flow paths of the multiplex head resulted in an additional reserve of capacity.
