ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 provides principal examples of mechanically-induced organic reactions. In addition to parameters routinely considered, such as reaction temperature or choice of solvent, emerging mechanical methods of activation also are important, although not frequently taken into account. Cutting, crushing, drilling, grinding, comminution, kneading, friction, shearing, and sliding represent such methods. Shock wave and ultrasonic effects are also considered in this chapter if comparison to mechanical activation is relevant.
