ABSTRACT

In a manufacturing company, many resources are consumed, and products, emissions, and waste are generated. The Resource Flow Diagram (RFD), an extension of the Flow Diagram, will be introduced in this section of the book. The RFD concentrates on the interfaces of processes and maps resource flows such as energy, material, waste, and manpower. The RFD first analyzes the origin and destination of these flows and then calculates the corresponding energetic and environmentally relevant values. With this analysis, resource and emission management in a company can be optimized and possibilities for recycling and reuse of resources can be analyzed.
