Solidification Cracking

As was noted in earlier chapters, cracks are the most dangerous defects of a welded joint. During fusion welding, the resulting welds may have either cold or hot cracks. A distinctive feature of hot cracks is their intercrystalline location, whereas cold cracks propagate mostly through the bulk of a crystalline grain, that is, they have a transcrystalline location.
