Designer Diagnostic Reagents and Allergens
Today, diagnostics is a key tool for maintenance of public health and one of the most dynamic research areas. Tremendous progress has been made in genetic engineering of diagnostic reagents. Numerous new proteins with desired properties have been devised and developed for the detection of specific immunoresponses to viral and bacterial infections and identification of other biologically important targets such as hormones and allergens. The trend is set-artificial designer proteins are on the way to replacing traditional antigens and antibodies in the laboratory assays and immunotherapy.
