COUPLED TURBULENCE, RADIATION, AND SOOT

KINETICS EFFECTS IN STRONGLY RADIATING

NONPREMIXED FLAMES

A computational study of coupled turbulence, chemistry, and radiation

interactions in an idealized strongly sooting and radiating nonpremixed

turbulent planar jet ame has been conducted. The two-dimensional,

density-weighted, spatially ltered compressible Navier{Stokes, energy

and species equations were numerically integrated using a second-order

time, fourth-order space accurate compact nite-dierence scheme in the

context of the Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) technique. The subgrid-

scale (SGS) stress tensor, scalar ux vectors, and related subgrid corre-

lations were closed using the dynamic Smagorinsky turbulence model.
