ABSTRACT

Improved mixing of a jet with its surroundings is of considerable interest in prac-

tical applications that demand enhanced combustion between injected fuel and

background oxidizer. In this context, there is a crucial interest in recognizing

and understanding the local nature of jet instabilities and their global nonlinear

development in space and time. The vorticity dynamics and mixing processes

determine the overall heat release pattern within the ame. Regions with en-

ing these combined processes it is possible to select optimal jet initial conditions

and fuel injection features to improve jet combustion.
