ABSTRACT
We review here the classical theory of plasticity for small displacements, a theory that describes the relation between load and deformation for many metals at higher stresses. Temperature changes will not be considered in this section. The constitutive relations are rate-independent. Time is used to keep track of events but the relations are independent of the time scale. Whenever components are introduced, a normal basis is implied.
