The geocell family of pavement materials is defined by manufactured plastic lattices, the cells of which can be filled with aggregate or a planting medium for turf. The term “geocell” comes from Koerner (1998, p. 62; Robert Koerner, personal

communication 2001); in his terms geocells are plastic mattresses or panels forming networks of box-like cells that are filled with earth material.
