ABSTRACT

In the mid-1990s, Datex was enjoying considerable success marketing patient monitoring products in Europe. In fact, they had captured considerable market share by selling an integrated monitoring product called Cardiocap and a subsequent version called Cardiocap II (see Figure 29.1), which was capable of monitoring several hemodynamic as well as respiratory parameters including expired CO2. But, the Finnish company still was not very well known in the large U.S. marketplace. That changed when the company introduced the AS/3 — a modular patient monitor incorporating a color display and designed specifically for use in the operating room by anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists (see Figure 29.2).
