ABSTRACT
As the soil cover H decreases, the live load effect on the buried pipe increases. There exist minimum heights of soil cover H, less than which the surface live load may damage the pipe. Less evident is a minimum height of soil cover for dead load, weight of soil only, on buried pipes. Each of these cases is discussed for rigid and flexible rings in this chapter. Only cohesionless soil is considered. Vehicles are generally unable to maneuver on poor soil such as wet cohesive soil. They get stuck in the mud.
