ABSTRACT

Signal lighting is lighting designed to indicate the presence of or give information about the movement of a vehicle. Signal lighting includes front position lamps, rear position lamps, side marker lamps, license plate lamps, turn lamps, hazard flashers, stop lamps, rear fog lamps, reversing lamps, and daytime running lamps, as well as retroreflectors. Some signal lamps, such as front and rear position lamps and side marker lamps, are used only at night or in conditions of poor daytime visibility, while others, such as turn lamps and stop lamps, have to be visible at all times, both day and night. To fulfill its function of transmitting information from one vehicle to the driver of another, the signal lamp has to be visible and its meaning has to be clear. It also helps if it is conspicuous.
