ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the research for a technique to authenticate scalable media efficiently, introduces the scalable content-based digital signatures, and presents such a signature scheme based on stream signature techniques and a modern image and video coding scheme. As technology penetrates more and more into everyday life, security has began to emerge as a primary concern and media authentication technology will definitely play an important role in the success of present and future multimedia services. A method to do source and integrity authentication for data that are transmitted through an insecure channel is by sending a cryptographically secure digest of the message through a secure channel. The general problem of data integrity authentication has traditionally been addressed by commercial picture authentication systems and image authentication cameras, which are based on common digital signature standards. The image authentication mechanism can take two forms, the self-contained autonomous content based signature and the authentication information targeted for embedding in specific code-streams.
